DAY TRIP WHITSTABLE, UK

By car or train, take this day trip Whitstable, which is under two hours away from central London. It is the perfect dose of sun, seaside and a chance to take it easy and watch the world go by. By visiting in September we missed the rush of the summer traffic and holiday makers but it was still warm enough to roll up the jeans to dip our feet in the sea! Grab a bottle, some fish and chips and head to the beach.

DAY TRIP WHITSTABLE

Starting off at the open air Harbour Market to look at the locally crafted goods and fine art, head down to the yacht club to begin the walk along the water front and Whitstable beach. Afternoon drinks at the Old Neptune followed by fish and chips dinner eaten by the water watching the sunset. We missed out on crabbing, but will do that on our next visit (you can pick up the equipment at the Harbour or from the Lobster Shack)

Whitstable beach

Isn’t there just something so restorative about the sound and smell of the sea?! This mostly pebble beach is clean and has plenty of places to perch.

The walk is full of hidden treats, from the old Oyster shells that have been discarded from the local eateries to the colourful huts and signs.  You can spend an hour taking it all in.

Drinks at THE OLD NEPTUNE

The old Neptune is right on the beach so it’s a great stop for drinks, but bar snacks/light bites were limited. If you time it right, you can walk out on the pier and gets some good view back up to the beach and Neptune. If you have a dog, this spot was great for the pooches to have a swim.

FISH AND CHIPS AND THE SUNSET

Ok, so technically we missed the actual sunset, but we have it on good authority that it is amazing, so we will be back! Call ahead and order your fish and chips from VC Jones (you can get bottles of ketchup as part of your order), collect and head to the beach to watch the last of the paddle boarders and sailors head back to shore as the sun goes down.

If you’re looking for other short breaks, how about this trip to Soho Farmhouse?
