ANDALUSIA SPAIN, A FOODIE THREE WEEKS

Andalusia Spain is home to so much more than just the Costa Del Sol, although that does continue to be a major draw with long wide stretches of pristine beaches. The Lakes of El Chorro are just an hour from Malaga and are turquoise blue – perfect for a day of paddle boarding. With the awe inspiring Caminito Del Rey close by, it’s a lovely full day out from the coast. A road trip down the coast to the Sherry regions of Sanlucar and Jerez is a great way to break up sunbathing days as is a trip to the capital, Seville. There’s so much to explore in this stunning region and all within a couple of hours drive

La Cala de Mijas

4/5
La Cala de Mijas is one of the original fishing villages situated on the Costa del Sol, in the province of Malaga. A charming village with a restored Moorish tower, a friendly village atmosphere and lots of appeal. It’s the perfect place to kick back and really relax. Located between the towns of Fuengirola and Marbella, close to popular urbanization of Calahonda, La Cala de Mijas is a very popular town with many good restaurants, shops and beach-front bars. Malaga Airport is just 20 minutes’ drive away. The town offers a nice easy paced life, not taken over completely by tourism so still maintaining its Spanish village charm, but with good facilities, a lovely golden sand beach and close to larger towns offering more action.

Jerez de la Frontera

4.5/5
Jerez is a lovely small town centred around its greatest export, Sherry! La Cabona is an excellent restaurant focussing on pairing the tasting menu with various styles of sherry with each course in a beautful unexepected white washed setting – simply stunning and a must whilst visting the area.

Seville, ANDALUSIA SPAIN

4/5
Known for its steamy-hot summers, mild winters and sultry operatic gypsy heroine Carmen, Seville is a bijou city whose fabulous food, extraordinary Mudejar, Gothic and Renaissance architecture, and exotic flamenco rhythms never fail to charm and seduce. History oozes through its very pores, with ancient Moorish walls, Roman ruins and Baroque churches at every turn. The Alcazar Palace, Plaza de Espana and Cathedral are not to be missed – just bring your fan with you and wear linen everything because Seville has its own kind of heat which makes shade hopping the rder of the day!

Sanlucar De Barrameda

4.5/5
Forming part of the sherry triangle in the province of Cadiz is the wonderful seaside town of Sanlucar de Barrameda. The lively town is surrounded by the Guadalquivir estuary, and is famous for being the place from which Christopher Columbus set sail in 1498 to discover the New World. Sanlucar is responsible for producing the distinctive Manzanilla sherry, which has a slightly salty flavour to it, due to its coastal location. This is a delightful town blessed with long splendid beaches, delicious seafood and a wonderful history.

El Caminito del Rey, Ardales and Campillos

4.3/5
El Caminito del Rey (The King’s Little Path) is the main draw in the area and is a breathtaking walkway, pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Ardales in the province of Málaga, Spain. The name derives from the original name of Camino del Rey (King’s Pathway). The walkway had fallen into disrepair and was partially closed for over a decade. After four years of extensive repairs and renovations, the walkway re-opened in 2015 and has been a sell out attraction ever since. It’s easy to see why when you walk the path with views over deep gorges and stunning waterways. You should book your tickets way in advance (up to a few months). The walk itself only takes a couple of hours if you take your time and is suitable for all fitness levels – as long as you have a head for heights! After enjoying the walk, a dip in the lakes close by is a welcome reward. The stunning turquoise lakes and destination worthy in their own right and so it’s nice to take your cooler and swim gear and make a day of it.

MARBELLA ANDALUSIA SPAIN

4.5/5

The boardwalk from Marbella to La Cala de Mijas makes for a lovely day out calling at beach bars along the way. We often take a bus down to Cabopino and mosey on back down the boardwalk making stops along the way on the beach and in bars back to La Cala de Mijas.

La CONCHA MOUNTAIN HIKE

4.5/5

High above the hustle and bustle of Marbella and San Pedro,  La Concha Mountain stands proud as the famous landmark that towers over this part of the Costa del Sol. The hike is not for the fainthearted – but the first half is accessible for all with a moderate level of fitness and reward with incredible views over the Marbella coastline below. Start at Refugio de Juanar where there is parking, the walk is then clearly signposted from there.
