Quick, low key New York holidays staying with friends. We had rain, sunshine and cold winds all in the space of a few days, so definitely take warm clothes if travelling in May.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN

Park slope is one of those up and coming neighbourhoods with pretty sidewalks and old townhouses. It’s known for its trendy organic eateries and Prospect Park. Quieter, relaxed and cheaper than staying in Manhattan.

GREENWICH VILLAGE

Outside lunch at Bar Pitti (delicious Italian food) and keep your eyes out, as this is often a celeb haunt. Dinner at Miss Lily’s Jamaican restaurant that feels part dance hall part restaurant. Personally, I would go back to Bar Pitti again as it’s a homestyle Italian and great for people watching, but not Miss Lily’s as I didn’t love the vibe or food options for a pescatarian.

NOLITA, New York

Shopping day and  to check out some street markets and street art.

Speed stop at Public to check out the decor as its one of those cool, hip places with so much design inspiration.

PROSPECT PARK

If you’re in Brooklyn then Prospect Park is great for a weekend wander especially to the food markets. Think mini Central Park.

MEATPACKiNG DISTRICT

More shopping and street side lunch at Extra Virgin. Had to see Carrie apartment from Sex and the City, as we were in the area!

THE HIGH LINE

The highlight of the trip. Under 1.5miles this, elevated gardened walk on a former rail line is worth a visit, street art and unique view of the city.
