Llama trekking surrey
Independently owned and set in the the village of Hambledon in the Surrey Hills, the Merry Harriers is a 15 bedroom venue with pub, shepherds huts and Llama trekking. We stayed in the Shepherds huts which were surprisingly comfortable, sweetly designed and super cosy. We had a one night Llama Loves Experience (£620 for two night, 2 person stay, llama picnic trek, evening meal and breakfast. Our stay was a competition win and whilst it was lovely, there are things that could easily be made better. It was a great little break with lots of laughs! Big shout out to the staff who really looked after us and made sure the trip was great. Lovely unique stay.
GETTING THERE + THE REFECTORY
THE MERRY HARRIERS
The concept is great, The Merry Harriers pub with garden and inn rooms and shepherds huts and an opportunity to walk Llamas. The area has a gin distillery, plenty of walks all on your door stop (the Merry Harriers provide a super helpful walking guide), but unfortunately the shepherd huts are placed next to the pub car park which was quiet but it’s not quite the experience you’d expect. This said, the huts face a well manicured garden and pond so you don’t really notice the car park. The huts, pub garden and staff are really the super stars here, thoughtful and considered, they made the stay. Food in the pub is as you’d expect, pub food and nothing particularly special. Personal highlight, sitting outside of our hut with the fire pit roaring and a glass of wine!
THE LLAMAS
The Llama loves experience is an hour walk and hour picnic which can be either taken on the trek at a scenic stop off or back in the pub / pub garden if the weather isn’t great. We opted for eating in the pub garden. The great thing about the pub and its ground is that the Llama are never far from your eye line. Friendly manager Mickey will even introduce you to them and let you feed them if you ask nicely! The trek is £60 or £89 if you want the picnic lunch too. The trek was fun and well thought out (the llamas are a little scary at first but then they figure out you’re in charge and are very sweet!) Lots of nice spots to stop and take photos and you even get to see the llamas take a roll in the sand. The picnic was disappointing for the price, plenty of food but the quality was so so and felt a little supermarket bought. Id just opt for the trek next time.
